The Sendai Oktoberfest is a fun and lively event for anyone who loves beer, music, and festivities. Numerous food and drink stalls are set up with major German and Japanese craft brews on tap. The food stalls feature a mixture of German and Japanese dishes, including sausages and pretzels from German stalls, and local specialties such as gyutan (grilled cow tongue) at Japanese ones.
Every year, Sendai Oktoberfest features many stage performances by both Japanese and German bands, who take the stage and perform popular German drinking tunes several times throughout the day. These take place at the Blue Tent, which is the most lively part of the festival grounds. The Green Tent, on the other hand, is a calmer space more suitable for families, people with pets, or anyone looking to enjoy their drinks alongside pleasant conversations.
2022 Schedule
Stage Performances from 12–23 September
This year's highlight is the Woho & Kalendar Band, a popular band featured at Oktoberfests across the country, and even worldwide. Every year, they participate in Japan's Spring and Autumn Oktoberfest tour, and this year is no exception! From 14–23 September, enjoy their many stage performances alongside traditional Bavarian folk dancing Cowbells, the Swiss Alp Horn, Yodeling, and much more!
In addition to the Woho & Kalendar Band, many other popular Japanese bands will also be making their appearance during Sendai Oktoberfest.

Cup Trade-In System
In order to cut down one one-time-use-plastic waste, Sendai Oktoberfest employs the environmentally friendly cup trade-in system, which is widely used in festivals all over Europe.
How it works:
1) When you purchase your first drink, you will pay an additional 1000 yen for the cup as a deposit.
2) Bring your cup with you when you purchase any subsequent drink and only pay the price of the drink.
3) Before you leave the festival grounds, be sure to trade in your cup in return for 1000 yen.
Note: beers larger than 1L are exempt from the trade-in systemBeer and Drink
This year's Sendai Oktoberfest features eighteen German breweries, including popular Oktoberfestbier from three of the six big Munich brewers that are served on Oktoberfest grounds (notably Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbrau, and Paulaner), as well as many more popular German beer breweries, such as Weihenstephan and Kostritzer.
In addition to German beer, six local beer breweries from the Tohoku Region will also be present, ranging from breweries from Akita Prefecture, all the way to next door Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture.
Non-beer options are also available, such as local coffee stands as well as four wineries, including a local winery from Akiyu, as well as one from the popular wine producing region of Yamagata Prefecture.
