If you're looking for a place to view cherry blossoms in Miyagi, this is it.
Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) is a classic spring tradition in Japan. The Hitome Senbonzakura, literally "View of a Thousand Cherry Trees," is a famous sakura spot in Miyagi where 1,000 cherry trees blossom along the Shiroishi River. Many food stalls crop up there as well during cherry blossom season, making it a perfect area to take a stroll in the spring. There are also many spots on the riverbank popular for picnics, boat rides on the river which pass by the trees, and a nightly illumination at Funaoka Castle Ruins Park.
Sakura here typically bloom around mid-April, but note that the exact dates vary from year to year. Check the official Facebook page for updates. Be sure not to miss this breathtaking sight with your family and friends! -
