Nanairo Hiroba was one of Yoichi Fujita’s first revitalization projects in Shichikashuku. It is an unconventional, modern rest area designed with sustainability in mind—constructed as part of a project to attract tourists, but also designed to meet the needs of the local community.
Nanairo Hiroba has your typical rest area standards (restrooms, a gas station, and a convenience store) but also features modern leisure facilities Wood & Spa Ya-sumasshe, and Book & Cafe Ko-rasshe. Ya-sumasshe is a cozy sento bathouse heated by environmentally-friendly biomass fuel. Ko-rasshe serves as a great stop for breakfast or lunch, and has a library area on the second floor for those who want to linger. Ko-rasshe also offers bicycle rental and SUP (stand-up paddleboard) rental. Both are a great way to experience the natural beauty of the town, and the SUP boards can be used at nearby Lake Shichikashuku or Lake Choro.
