Yuzushi is one of Kesennuma’s most popular sushi restaurants. It is especially known for its friendly atmosphere, quality service, and unbeatable prices.
Chef Kato has been part of this family-run business for more than thirty-three years and has also worked as a chef in Australia. His original shop, located near the Kesennuma Fish Market, was sadly destroyed by the 2011 tsunami. He reopened his shop in 2013 at this new Kesennuma Bypass location.
Yuzushi offers a variety of courses and menu items, all made with freshly caught fish. Enjoy delicious sushi, sashimi, and donburi (rice bowl dishes) of your choice, or go for the omakase experience and let the chef decide! The wide price range makes this place suitable for both casual dining as well as special occasions.
Through his sushi business, the owner wants to support the local community and welcome tourists to his hometown. He now offers a sushi-making experience where visitors can learn the art of sushi from the master.
“Tohoku is fun throughout the year. There are many ski resorts, hot springs, and delicious food. I want people to fully enjoy Kesennuma, Miyagi, and Tohoku,” says Chef Kato.
For less than a thousand yen I had a satisfying and tasty lunch. Fresh sushi is just the best! My personal recommendation is the mekajiki (swordfish) sushi, a Kesennuma specialty.
