  • Experience what life was like for the samurai elite during the fabled Edo period. The Iwadeyama branch of the Date family likely established Yubikan in 1677 as a retirement house for heads of the clan. This exquisite thatched-roof building was then later used as a school for their children. Inside Yubikan, get a vivid impression of Date samurai history and culture through various exhibits and video presentations. Outside, enjoy Yubikan’s centuries-old traditional strolling garden, with a landscape that appears to change when viewed from different positions around the central pond.
