Kuriya is a shop specializing in exquisite handmade soaps. All of the soaps here are made by owner Kuriya-san and his assistants. They scent the soaps exclusively with pure essential oils and incorporate local ingredients believed to promote skin health: seaweeds, silk fibers, and so on. The pure, heady aromas of the essential oils fill the shop and waft out into the square, making a stop here feel much like an aromatherapy session.
Workshops are also offered, where Kuriya-san teaches visitors how to make their own handmade soaps. Before moving to Onagawa, Kuriya-san worked as a translator in Tokyo, so visitors can converse in English worry free!
