The Saito family were prosperous merchants who plied their trade in Marumori from the end of the samurai era until just after World War II. The buildings of Sairi Yashiki have been excellently preserved, each showing off objects from the family’s collection like mini museums. The themes include toys, currency (including rare rectangular coins and a counting tray), a bathhouse built from stone blocks, and more. The facility is much larger than it appears from the street—allow two hours to experience it fully.
